Exploring new dimensions: my immersive audio journey at Bath Spa University
This weekend I was lucky enough to attend a two-day immersive audio course at Bath Spa University, and what an experience it was! I gained a place via my membership at the Studio In Bath. The course was a deep dive into the world of spatial sound, in the gorgeous setting of Newton Park.
We worked in Reaper, which allows editing and a way of making mono and stereo sound to be made in to ambisonic sound. The highlight? Experimenting with a huge array of speakers, creating rich, multidimensional audio environment.
One of the most inspiring moments was hearing from Hans-Martin Buff, a Grammy Award-winning audio artist whose expertise and passion for immersive sound were really inspiring. His insights into the art and science of audio design left me with a fresh perspective on how sound can shape experiences.
Beyond the technical skills, the course was a fantastic chance to connect with amazing people– sound artists, and engieneers, all sharing a passion for pushing the boundaries of audio. It was so great to make a piece of audio and then try it out on the set up they had in the studio.
I left feeling inspired, with new skills, fresh ideas, and a deeper appreciation for the power of immersive sound. Can’t wait to see where this journey takes me next!
